Find Your New Era Hat Style
Since 1920, New Era has helped define the look of sports headwear. The brand became synonymous with professional baseball through its on-field Major League Baseball fitted caps, but now can be seen across major sports leagues around the world, and within streetwear and hip hop culture.
Through the years, New Era has continued to evolve and grow from just the Originators of the True Fitted. Today, New Era offers the most diverse selection of caps, from snapback hats and stretch-fit caps to low-profile, A-Frame, M-Crown, dad hats, and other adjustable styles. Each New Era hat silhouette style delivers a different crown shape, visor curve, fit, and feel.

New Era 59FIFTY Fitted Hat
The New Era 59FIFTY is the original fitted baseball cap and the brand’s most iconic style. Recognized across professional sports, streetwear, and hip-hop culture, it is known for its structured shape, premium construction, and signature gold sizing sticker.
The 59FIFTY features a structured crown, flat visor, and a closed back. The crown of this style is high profile, more squared and works especially well for customers who prefer a bold look or have a broader or larger head shape.
Because the 59FIFTY is available in exact fitted hat sizes, choosing the right size is essential. Even a small size difference can affect comfort and how the cap sits on your head.
Use our New Era fitted hat size chart to find your best fit, then compare the 59FIFTY with other New Era hat styles below.
59FIFTY Fitted Hat
The 59FIFTY is the original true fitted cap, built the way New Era has built it since 1954. The crown is cut from six panels and stitched into a rounded, high crown shape, with eyelets at each panel seam for airflow. Inside, a stiff buckram lining holds the crown rigid, so the cap keeps its shape wear after wear instead of collapsing. That structure is why it sits taller on your head than almost anything else in the New Era lineup, and why it looks best on a squared off head shape rather than an oval one. The bill comes flat off the factory line and stays that way unless you bend it yourself. There’s no strap or snap on this hat. It’s a true fitted, sized to the half inch, so you need your exact size for it to sit right. Off by even a size and you’ll feel it, loose at the temples or pinching at the crown. Check our Size Chart before you buy.

59FIFTY Low Profile
Built on the same six panel, buckram lined shape as the standard 59FIFTY, but the crown is cut shorter and contoured to slope down instead of standing tall. The bill also comes pre curved out of the box instead of flat. Together, that gets you a cap that sits noticeably closer to the head, which works better if you’re oval shaped or your forehead slopes back. One thing to know before you order: this one runs a size bigger than the standard 59FIFTY, so if you know your regular fitted size, go down one.
59FIFTY A-Frame
Same true fitted construction as the standard 59FIFTY, buckram and all, but built on five panels instead of six. The front panel is pinched with no center seam, so it stands up taller and gives you a bigger, uninterrupted canvas up front. If you’re putting a large logo or graphic front and center, this is the shape built for it.
59FIFTY Split Panel
Still a structured, buckram lined fitted cap, but a horizontal seam cuts across the front panel and splits it into three. That seam drops the crown down to a medium profile, taller than the Low Profile but shorter than the standard 59FIFTY, and it opens up a wider front for bold logos or graphic heavy designs that need the extra room.
59FIFTY Retro Crown
The softest cap in the 59FIFTY lineup. It’s still a closed back fitted hat with no strap, but the buckram inside is lighter, so the front panels flex under your fingers instead of holding rigid. It still holds its shape, just with less structure than the rest of the family. Built low profile with a pre curved bill, this one wears in fast and feels broken in from the first time you put it on.
New Era 9FIFTY Snapback Hat
The 9FIFTY is New Era’s original snapback, a retro style cap inspired by the snapbacks of the 1980s. It’s built off the same six panel, structured, buckram crown as the 59FIFTY and the same flat bill, but instead of a fitted back with no closure, it opens up into an adjustable snap so you’re not locked into a single size. Usually that’s a plastic snap tab, though you’ll see leather straps and other closures on certain releases too. Because it adjusts, one size covers most heads, which is why it’s the easiest hat in the lineup to buy as a gift or for a kid who’s still growing, you just loosen the snap as they grow into it. It’s not built for bigger heads though. At 7⅝ you’re borderline, and at 7¾ or up the crown will sit too small no matter how far you let the snap out.

9FIFTY Low Profile
Same snapback closure, same flat brim silhouette, but the crown is contoured down to a low profile and the visor curves slightly instead of sitting flat. Pick this if you want the 9FIFTY’s retro look with a shorter crown.
9FIFTY A-Frame
Five panels instead of six, with the front pinched into one seamless panel instead of split down the middle. That gives you a taller, cleaner front, built for bigger logos and bolder graphics, on the same adjustable snap back as the standard 9FIFTY.
9FIFTY Split Panel
Keeps the structured six panel 9FIFTY crown, but a horizontal seam splits the front into three panels for a wider display area, more room for bold logos or oversized embroidery than the A-Frame or the standard build.
9FIFTY Retro Crown
A lighter build than the standard 9FIFTY. The crown structure is softer and sits lower, so the front panel flexes instead of holding rigid, giving you that broken in feel right away instead of a stiff cap you have to wear in.
New Era 9TWENTY Adjustable Hat
The 9TWENTY, also called the Casual Classic or dad hat, is New Era’s relaxed, unstructured adjustable cap. Where the 59FIFTY and 9FIFTY rely on buckram to hold a rigid, high crown, the 9TWENTY has none of that structure built in, so the six panel crown sits low and soft on your head with a pre-curved visor from the start. It comes in One Size Fits Most with an adjustable strap at the back, usually in a washed cotton that already has that worn-in, vintage look, which is why it’s the go to for throwback designs. Roll it up, stuff it in a bag, it won’t lose its shape because it was never holding a shape to begin with. Like the 9FIFTY, it’s not the best fit on a bigger head, 7⅝ is borderline and 7¾ or up will look undersized.

New Era 39THIRTY Stretch-Fit Adjustable Hat
The 39THIRTY is New Era’s original stretch fit cap. Instead of a snap or a strap, the closed back sweatband itself is woven with spandex, so the whole cap stretches to grip your head rather than adjusting at a single point. The crown is still structured with buckram and cut from six panels, just at a lower, more relaxed profile than the 59FIFTY, and the visor comes pre-curved out of the box. That stretch band is also why it comes in only three sizes instead of a full fitted range, S/M, M/L, and L/XL, the elastic fills in the gaps between them. Check our Size Chart to find which of the three fits you.

39THIRTY M-Crown
Same stretch fit band, but built on a medium depth crown instead of the standard’s lower profile, so there’s more room up front for a bigger logo, with a slightly pre curved visor. Sits fuller and more upright than the standard 39THIRTY.
39THIRTY M-Crown A-Frame
The M-Crown’s medium depth shape combined with a five panel A-Frame front, seamless and pinched, so you get the taller logo space of the A-Frame on the fuller M-Crown base.
39THIRTY Infinity
The performance build. Seamless structured crown, a curved visor, and a Performance Stretch Sweatband in place of the standard elastic band, built to move with you and hold a tighter, more athletic fit than the regular stretch band.
9SEVENTY Stretch-Fit Adjustable Hat
The 9SEVENTY is New Era’s newer stretch adjustable cap, and it splits the difference between the 39THIRTY and a snapback. The crown is structured and cut from six panels like the 39THIRTY, and the visor is pre curved, but instead of an all elastic sweatband, it closes with a stretch snap, part stretch material, part adjustable tab, so you get the stretch fit’s snug feel with a closure you can actually loosen or tighten yourself. That closure covers roughly a 6⅞ to 7⅝ range on its own.
9SEVENTY Stretch Snap
The standard build described above, structured six panel crown, pre curved visor, stretch snap closure at the back.
9SEVENTY Split Panel
Same stretch snap closure and structured crown, but a horizontal seam splits the front panel in three, opening up more space for bold logos or oversized embroidery, the same trade off as the Split Panel versions in the 9FIFTY and 39THIRTY families.
New Era 9FORTY Adjustable Hat
The 9FORTY splits the difference between the 39THIRTY and the 9FIFTY. Up top it fits like the 39THIRTY, a structured, low profile six panel crown with a pre curved visor, but instead of a stretch band it has an open adjustable back, snap, strap, or velcro depending on the release. That combination gets you the 39THIRTY’s shape with the sizing flexibility of a snapback. Like the 9FIFTY, it’s not built for bigger heads, 7⅝ is borderline and 7¾ or up will run too small.

9FORTY A-Frame
Five panel adjustable build with the same pinched, seamless front as the rest of the A-Frame line, a taller front panel for bigger logos, on the 9FORTY’s adjustable closure.
9FORTY M-Crown
Structured six panel build with a medium depth crown and a shorter, slightly pre curved visor, fuller than the standard 9FORTY without going as tall as a full high crown.
9FORTY M-Crown A-Frame
The five panel A-Frame front combined with the M-Crown’s medium depth shape and shorter pre curved visor, for a cleaner, more filled out profile than the standard A-Frame.
9FORTY Stretch Snap
Structured six panel crown in a contoured, low profile shape, but with a stretch sweatband built into an adjustable snapback closure, so you get some of the stretch fit’s grip with the flexibility of a snap.
New Era 19TWENTY Cap
Also known as the Golfer, the 19TWENTY is New Era’s vintage inspired, low profile cap. Like the 9TWENTY, it’s unstructured with no buckram holding the crown up, so it sits soft and low on the head, but the bill is flat instead of curved, which is the main thing that separates it from the rest of the unstructured caps in the lineup. It’s most often paired with vintage or heritage logos. Traditionally built as a fitted cap with no closure, so you’ll want your exact size, though adjustable versions are also available. Check our Size Chart if you’re going fitted.
