One of the highlights about our 2013 Custom Collection was the ability to play around with different fabrics at New Era’s design studio. We had the fabric swatches right in front of us, so we could really see and feel the actual materials we were planning on using. This is really important especially when we design hats using a nontraditional hat material. There are so many unknowns (look, feel, color richness) that in the past we have often stayed away from the avant garde because we just could not be certain that the quality would be what we wanted it to be. Not this time. Thanks to New Era, we know just how great the fabric would be before the first sample was ever produced.
The result is our most daring creation: the Ostrich Rock. This hat is made out of high quality faux ostrich skin. Ostrich skin has been used in high fashion for quite some time. But we are one of the first to use it for a New Era fitted. The only New Era cap designer out there working with this type of material that we know of is Jeremy Scott. And in our humble opinion, our SD Ostrich Rock still looks better.
The off-white color we chose adds richness to the feel of this cap, giving it a feel similar to worn leather. The taupe color on the embroidered logos complement this off-white color perfectly. We also paid attention to the undervisor, using faux ostrich skin again, but this time in a color that matches perfectly to the taupe color of the logo embroidery. As with every hat in the 2013 Custom Collection, we finished this hat off with the signature 59FIFTY gold sticker print as the inner lining of the front two panels. Top button is also made from faux ostrich. This hat is so silky smooth, even your girl is going to try and steal this from you.
