We posted a blog entry over a month ago about our trip to New Era’s HQ to design some exclusive hats (check out original post here). Collaborating with New Era’s design team, we created a handful of really amazing caps. Since then, we’ve been waiting eagerly for these caps to arrive. And waiting. And waiting waiting some more. But now the wait is over. These caps are here. So without further ado, let me introduce you to the Billion Creation 2013 Custom Collection.

DENIM PHELLEM

The Denim Phellem is the perfect denim cap to wear all year round, all the time, for any occasion. With a twist. The knock on denim has always been how hot it can get when wearing. However, this cap is made from super lightweight denim so it does not trap in heat like a normal denim cap would, making the experience more similar in feel to a wool or cotton cap. The color is dark denim blue with hints of black, allowing you to hook it up with practically any color. The color is also rich enough where it can be dressed up or worn casually.

 

The twist we added here is that this cap is made with cork. Yes, that’s right. Cork. The same material champagne bottles are capped with. We incorporated a cork veneer on the undervisor, and as the inside fill for the SD logo on the front and the MLB logo on the back. The use of cork is just now spreading. But it is still rare to see, in part because it is difficult to make a hat out of non-fabric, especially a wood. New Era made the Denim Phellem masterfully. On the undervisor, they managed to incorporate stitching like you would see with normal fabric. Also, the cork inlays in the front and back logos fit perfectly.

This cap not only showcases cork as a fabric, but also weaves it into the overall look of the cap really well. The beige textured pattern from the cork really complements the dark blue denim of the hat. The texture of the cork also adds something, making this hat feel unique and rich, in a very simple and understated way.
