About Levi’s

Levi Strauss was a Bavarian immigrant in San Francisco during the time of the Gold Rush. When he learned that the miners need durable pants for work, he hired a tailor to sew the necessary pants, and so the partnership with his brothers, Louis and Jonas Strauss, started the company.

In 1902, their four nephews took over the company, but it was then passed to the Haas Family in 1918. In 1946, when the company decided to concentrate on manufacturing along, instead of wholesaling, it grew well.

In the 1960s, Levi’s jeans were not only worn by American cowboys, but also by the whole world. In 1971, Levi’s was operated in 50 countries. However, the company returned to being a private-owned company after a leveraged buyout in 1985.

Levi’s launched the LVC or Levi’s Vintage Clothing in 1996, which was a reproduction of the vintage types of denim from the Levi Strauss Archives. In 2003, Signature by LS&Co was launched, and in 2007, Levi’s mobile phones were developed. Later when Chip Bergh was hired as CEO, the company expanded again and once again reached the global market with success.
