About Lurking Class by Sketchy Tank

Lurking Class had an exciting beginning. Sketchy Tank is known for his blogs, where he draws the attention of many artistic and athletic individuals through his drawings and sketches of dark art, skulls, and satirical memes. Sketchy Tank has a compilation of NSFW images and hundreds of twisted tattoo arts and visuals that he collected over the years.

The brand showcases these unique graphics and sketches in every t-shirt or apparel designed by Sketchy Tank himself. According to him, each illustration printed on the apparel has its own story, making the Sketchy Tank logo even more popular to the skater community and for the growing union of artistic and athletic individuals with the same mind and idealism.

Sketchy Tank draws his inspiration from a growing number of followers and their increasing demands for unique apparel. The street style and the artistic approach of his designs brought his brand to a higher level. He operates the Lurking Class with a mentality of “Disturbing the comfortable, comforting the disturbed.” This idealism is evident in every Sketch Tank hoodie, shirt, and merchandise piece under the Lurking Class umbrella.

Currently, Lurking Class’s clothing line and artwork have been sold in more than 700 stores, country-wide. Some brands also feature Lurking Class artistic merchandises at their outlets throughout the world. Sketchy Tank continues to expand the business, bringing the Lurking Class into becoming a major brand that is recognized worldwide.

What is the Lurking Class?

Sometimes, “purpose” is found at a young age. For artist and collector, Sketchy Tank, an apparent love for the world’s twisted, controversial visuals came earlier than anticipated. In third grade, he put pen to paper as an expression of his adolescent mind, falling in love with the process, and honing his skills through the production of skate-inspired sketches. These small doodles became emblematic of Tank’s unique ethos — referencing his abnormal understanding of an even more abnormal world and leading to a more refined approach.

After accumulating segments of work from both himself and other artists, Sketchy Tank decided to imprint himself upon the space. Following the creation of his up-and-coming blog site, TheSketchyTank.com, the artist saw widespread recognition among his peers, thanks to his unique blend of satirical content, cleanly-tailored line work, and anarchic styling. Soon, these designs would find their way into the catalog of Lurking Class, Tank’s newfound venture.

When questioned about the identity of the brand, Sketchy exclaimed that his simplistic (but visually-appealing) apparel line was created to “disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed” – placing an emphasis on the union of originality, normalcy, and the bouts of psychosis that come with it.

Is Lurking Class a skate brand?

Lurking Class is the product of artist Sketchy Tank – a dark, humorous view on social depravity and the people who dwell outside of the traditional “bubble.” As such, skaters, surfers, and snowboarders might seem like the perfect audience to target in terms of product and design. While the imagery of Lurking Class exudes its love for these subcultures, the brand has stated that it is not, in fact, an action-sports brand.

Regardless of its collaborative existence within each channel, the Lurking Class remains an art and apparel company, first and foremost. This has led to amazing partnerships with notable skate, surf, and snowboarding brands like Vans, Tactics, RIDE, Volcom, KR3W, and Hansen.

Where is Sketchy Tank from?

It might seem cliché, but Sketchy Tank’s unique artwork is the product of his youthful upbringing along the coast of Encinitas, California. An epicenter for all things surf- and skate-related, this beautiful coastal locale would serve as the basis for his artistic influences, thanks to varying levels of community exposure.

His father — a staff photographer for Surfing Magazine, and lifelong ocean-lover – integrated Tank into his professional life at a young age, bringing him on surf trips to some of the sport’s most notable locations. Over the years, this helped Sketchy to cultivate his own style of surf/skate-inspired artwork, resulting in the crass illustrations of Lurking Class.
